Image tools

Crop images online — private and precise

A touch-friendly crop area with ready-made shapes, rotation, flipping and a guide grid. Crop your picture and save it as PNG, JPEG or WebP. Making files smaller is a separate tool — this one is just for cropping. Nothing leaves your device.

Files never leave your device. Compression, cropping and packaging all run in your browser. Byteshrink has no upload endpoint and no file storage.

A proper crop tool, not an afterthought

Everything you would expect from a desktop app, right in your browser.

  • Ready-made shapes

Crop freely, or lock to a square, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 and the tall versions of each — so social and print sizes are one tap.

  • Rotate and flip

Turn the picture in quarter-turns, or nudge it by a small amount, and mirror it left-right or top-bottom.

  • Guide grid

A rule-of-thirds grid helps you place the subject while you drag.

  • Zoom and move

Scroll or pinch to zoom in, and slide the picture around without losing your frame.

  • Undo, redo, reset

Step back and forward through your changes, or go back to the original in one tap.

  • Save in any type

Pick the output type — same as the original, or PNG, JPEG or WebP — and download. This is only a crop tool; making files smaller is a separate tool.

Cropping FAQ

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Every step — opening the file, cropping, resizing, making it smaller and bundling several together — happens right inside the web page on your own device. Your files never leave your computer or phone, and nothing is kept once you close the tab.

Which file types can I use?

Images in PNG, JPEG and WebP, and PDF documents. You can also switch an image from one type to another while you compress it — for example turning a large PNG screenshot into a much smaller WebP.

How can a PDF be made smaller without a server?

For scanned or picture-heavy PDFs, Byteshrink takes a fresh, lower-resolution snapshot of each page and saves those as a new PDF. If you would rather keep the text selectable, there is a lighter option that just removes hidden information and tidies the file up.

Does the crop tool work on phones and tablets?

Yes. You can drag the corners, pinch to zoom, move the picture around, and rotate or flip it, with aspect-ratio presets and a helpful grid. It is built for touch first.
