Every file you add is opened and worked on inside the web page, on your own device. Byteshrink has nowhere to upload files to, does not store them, and has no system that ever receives their contents.

The smaller versions are created on your device and handed straight back to you as downloads. Closing or refreshing the tab clears everything. Nothing about your files is recorded or kept.

The site sets no tracking cookies and does not build advertising profiles. The tool may remember small preferences, like which option you last chose, on your own device only. That information never leaves your browser.

If simple, privacy-respecting visitor counts are added in future, this page will be updated to say what is measured before that happens.

Like any website, the hosting provider that serves these pages may process standard technical request logs (such as IP address and user agent) for security and reliability. These logs are not linked to any file you process and are subject to the host's own retention policy.
